Balancing Oiliness or Dryness

Oiliness
Our skin secretes sebum through the sebaceous glands, creating a film to lock in moisture and keep it hydrated, as well as to protect it from external factors that may harm it. This process is essential for maintaining the health of our skin, but if this function is disrupted, it results in the overproduction of sebum. Excess sebum causes clogged pores, leading to shine, blackheads, and acne.

What causes oiliness in the skin:

  • Genetic predisposition: Many people are born with increased sebaceous glands, resulting in higher sebum production.
  • Stress During periods of stress, the skin tends to become oilier due to hormonal imbalances in the body.
  • Hormonal imbalances: Hormonal fluctuations lead to increased oiliness.
  • Inappropriate cosmetics: Using products not suitable for oily skin can cause severe acne breakouts.
  • Environmental pollution/dust: Studies have shown that people frequently exposed to environmental pollution are more likely to experience intense oiliness.

Expert advice

  • Cleanse your skin daily, but not excessively, as it may have the opposite effect.
  • Exfoliate your skin 1-2 times a week to deeply clean the pores and remove dead cells.
  • Moisturize your skin daily with products that have sebum-regulating properties.
  • Always use sun protection specifically for oily skin.
  • Adopt a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water.

Excessive Dryness

The skin is constantly exposed to external attacks, such as allergens, sun exposure, low temperatures, various household cleaning chemicals, heating, etc. These attacks, combined with genetic predisposition, certain medications or diseases, and age, can affect the skin's balance, leading to dryness. Dry skin needs lipid replenishment, strengthening of the skin barrier, and restoration of hydration levels.

What are the symptoms:

  • Tightness
  • Roughness
  • Peeling
  • Intense itching
  • Redness
  • Dull appearance

These symptoms can appear on both the face and body.

Expert advice

  • Wash with lukewarm water for a short period (up to 10 minutes).
  • Use only mild cleansing products.
  • After washing, gently pat your skin dry.
  • Avoid sitting near heat or cold sources, such as fireplaces, air conditioners, etc.
  • Drink at least 2 liters of water daily.
  • Use sun protection every day, all year round.
